A new plan
Well, if all goes well, and as is being planned, the face in this uniform will be mine -- in about 2015! Last week I paid my admission fee to the local community college so that I can begin to work on my transfer AA degree in pre-nursing. As I've planned it out, taking all the classes required, I should graduate in 2013 and then be able to look at the university level to get my BSN-RN. It doesn't feel real, I'm trying not to think about it too much, or I may just freak out, but really, this is where my heart is. A few years back we went to Children's to have an MRI done on Tiana and that time the hospital just seemed to call to me! I had a fairly physical reaction to wishing I could be one of those amazing people there comforting and caring for the children and their families. And then when the horrible earthquake hit Haiti, all I could think of was going down there! Of course, they were looking for people with "real" experience, with real skills, but I'm sure I could have held a child, or an old man's hand, I could have cared with all of my being. Next time I'll be ready! So, come January 3, I will start my journey. Egads, what was I thinking!!

I am so glad for your aspiration and I wish you the BEST in fulfilling your dream. I know it is not going to be easy, but if your heart is there, you will be there too after graduating. If it seems a long jurney, remember how time flies, you'll be there soon. Best of luck!!!
Good for you, Melisa! I have been in the speech path program at the Univ of Montana, and the department chair says the nontraditional (older) students are more successful. So, there you go - I think you will very much enjoy the journey. SRW
Judy E mentioned this to me at conv., so I was kinda waiting for you to mention it. (You probably know that Judy is going back to school to become an RN, after years of being an LPN.) Healthcare is the place to be...unfortunately, not having the disposition/nerves for it, I really admire those who CAN do it...and I think you'll make an excellent nurse!! So wishing you all the best in pursuing your new career!
What were you thinking? That it was time for Melisa to spread her wings and fly!
this is wonderful/exciting/scary news!!! wishing you the best & knowing that because your heart is in it you can acheive it all!
Congratulations! You will do great!!!
Hey I think that's great! Time passes by whether we do something or not, so you have nothing to lose and lots to gain by starting on that journey!
